What is a pressed serum?

In short, a pressed serum is anhydrous moisturizing concentrate that melts to fluid upon contact with skin. Although it visually looks like a balm, pressed serum differs from a balm in the composition of the ingredients and the manufacturing process. Typically a balm is a combination of cocoa, avocado, or shea butters with almond or jojoba oils and more commonly used waxes. Pressed serum on the other hand has a combination of powerhouse actives, rare and unique extracts, exotic butters, floral waxes, and is often much lighter in texture and fast-absorbing. This synergy of butters and floral waxes create an occlusive layer on the skin which moisturizes and nourishes, whilst giving the active ingredients of the pressed serum the opportunity to work their magic on the skin.
